We created a task in a previous prototype so regional delivery officers (DOs) could add a risk appraisal. To create it, we copied the risk appraisal fields from Free Schools Store so we could validate whether users found them useful.
We also had a section in our project overview which showed that users could enter a RAG (red, amber, green) rating and summary to the project.
Feedback
We found in user research that:
- Users did not know:
- what the risk appraisal task was for
- how this was different from RAG rating and summary
"Is the risk appraisal the RAG rating, or something different?"
- DOs are expected to schedule a risk appraisal meeting as soon as they are allocated a new project.
- The RAG rating and summary is updated throughout a free school project. DOs use a risk appraisal form (RAF) to help them do this.
- DOs need to see how the RAG rating and summary has changed over time.
Iterations
In our latest prototype we:
Changed Risk appraisal to Risk appraisal meeting
This is so the task list helps users to manage the free school project. Risk appraisal meeting.
Edited the RAG rating section of project overview
So that users can add a new RAG rating entry without overriding the previous one. This will allow them to see how the RAG rating has changed throughout the project. Project overview.
Displayed the overall RAG rating questions towards the end of the 'add a new RAG entry' journey
This is based on the assumption that the governance, education and finance RAG ratings inform the overall RAG rating. 'Add a new RAG entry' journey
Displayed the overall RAG rating in the first row of the current RAG rating summary list
We believe the overall RAG rating will be the most useful rating to users throughout the project. Current RAG rating summary list.
