The current Check a teacher’s record navigation is contained within the GOV.UK header. It includes the:

  • service name
  • 'Find a record' link
  • 'Find multiple records' link
  • 'Sign out' link

We’re updating it to use the new service navigation component recently published to the Design System.

What’s changing

Service name

We’ll move the service name into the navigation bar following this guidance:

"We recommend that you use the Service navigation component to show your service name, instead of the GOV.UK header, and to start updating existing services."

The service name will link to the GOV.UK start page following this guidance:

"Make the service name a link to the homepage of your service.

If your service does not have a homepage, link to either:

  • your service’s GOV.UK start page
  • the first question of your service"

Sign out

We’ll show the DfE Sign-in sign out link in the service navigation.

We considered keeping it in the GOV.UK header but decided that this works better for services that use GOV.UK One Login, for example:

Phase banner

We’ll show the phase banner beneath the service navigation following this guidance:

"Show the Phase banner component directly under either:

  • the Service navigation component
  • the GOV.UK header and blue colour bar (if your service does not use the Service navigation component)"

What’s next

We’ll build and launch the new service navigation soon and monitor any relevant feedback or support queries.
