Background
Sasha asked if we could have a technical conversation with Paul Middlemas and a dev to see how easy this would be to implement. Would also be useful to know: How soon after the revised data comes in will it be uploaded to the TRAMS production environment? Is there any chance the data upload will fail?
- Revised key stage 4 and key stage 5 data will be released on 2 February. No plans to release key stage 2 data
- It could take up to 2 weeks to get the revised key stage 4 and 5 data into production, depending on competing demands for Paul and Sophie's time (they're dealing with access requests etc)
- When that data is uploaded, there'll be no time delay in it coming into our service
- After revised data, there's also final data. 2020 to 2021 and 2018 to 2019 data is final.
- Changes from provisional to revised data are announced by DfE, but provisional to final is not announced.
- There are differences between provisional and revised data. There can be differences between revised and final, but these are miniscule and rare
- A South West lead said they find it useful to know whether data is provisional or revised. Data is categorised in KIM as provisional, revised or final
- There currently isn't a mechanism to automatically identify data as provisional, revised etc. Sophie is currently working on a Master schema, and we could add Status as a column to this schema. Paul will put this work on Service Support's backlog and mention it to their delivery and product managers
- Dom says we could change the status to revised, provisional etc if we know the date when it will change. Key stage data only comes into our service when it's uploaded: not at the start of the academic year
Creating a design
We decided to use the tag component to highlight the status of the currently available data for each year.
The layout for the Key Stage 5 data was slightly different, so we had to think where to place the tags. We decided the best placementwas in the top left corner, as shown in this screenshot:
