What we changed

We changed the ‘Add’ labels of email input fields ‘To’, ‘Cc’ and ‘Bcc’ to:

  • ‘Add To: recipient’
  • ‘Add CC: recipient’
  • ‘Add BCC: recipient’

We moved the ‘Show Cc’ and ‘Show Bcc’ buttons to below the email recipients’ emails, and added a ‘Show To’ button.

Why we changed this

When clicking on the ‘Add’ button next to the ‘To’ email input field, Proc Ops case workers expected the button to open a modal, so they could search for and add contacts – similar behaviour to clicking the ‘To’ button in Outlook Message.

At this time, it isn’t possible to replicate this ‘Outlook’ style behaviour, so we had to come up with a comprimise.

How it works

We changed the ‘Add’ button label to ‘Add To: recipients’. When clicked, an additional ‘To’ input field is displayed. We also changed the ‘Add’ button labels for ‘Cc’ and ‘Bcc’ to ‘Add Cc: recipients’ and ‘Add Bcc: recipients’ The behaviour of these buttons remain the same.

We tested this UI with Prop Ops case workers. They understood that this was a compromise, and that there will be differences in the interaction behaviour of this CMS email application and Outlook.

Future considerations

Continue to revise and review the interaction behaviour and UI with Proc Ops, so that their expectations are managed early on.
