What we changed
- we changed the GOV.UK header to the DfE header
- we changed the GOV.UK template layout to a custom wider layout grid
- we changed the filters from drop lists to checkboxes, to allow the selection of multiple filters from each filter group.
- we changed the filters from a horizontal to a vertical layout
- we replaced the case list table with panels
- we added the procurement level
- we added the procurement stage and description
- we changed ‘Add Notes’ to ‘Quick edit’
- we added ‘Next key date’ and ‘Key date description’
Why we changed this
We know that Proc Ops managers use case lists to quickly assess where cases are in the process and whether they are ‘stuck’. They are also used for team meetings and 1:1 sessions.
The key information displayed as part of the case, needs to be enhanced to provide better visibility of:
- the procurement level and stage
- the case status (if the case worker is waiting on a response from the school)
- the case value
- and any key dates relating to the case
Because the service will move from the service.gov.uk domain to the education.gov.uk domain, it was necessary to replace the GOV.UK header with the DfE header.
How it works
When assessing a case, the Proc Ops manager and Case Worker can now instantly view and act on the key information for each case because:
- replacing the table with a new wider panel layout provides more space for all the key information and making it easier to scan
- the requirement of adding a colour tag to the procurement stage allows it to be easily identified when scanning (for accessibility purposes a description of the stage appears alongside the colour tag)
- the new wider layout allows for an updated dynamic filter panel, which enables case workers to filter case lists by more than one item, and also select multiple filters within the same filter group
- a sort may be applied to the case list results via a select component
- ascending and descending radios when selected, will change the direction of the results
- the ‘Quick edit’ call-to-action allows the case worker to quickly access the screen where they can view and edit the key information displayed in the case panel
Further considerations
- New wider layout needs to be applied across ALL CMS screens
- Continue to use GOV.UK header until the service is moved to the new education.gov.uk domain. Then the DfE header must be used.
