Overview

  • ‘Type of tuition’ is now referred to as 'tuition setting
  • ‘No preference’ is now an addtional option
  • ‘In school’ is now reffered to as ‘face-to-face’
  • ‘Any’ has been rephrased as ‘Both face-to-face and online’

Why we did this

The filter of ‘any’ ‘school’ and ‘online’ is not clear, and doesn’t account for all scenarios schools could want to filter e.g. ‘no preference’, ‘both’. etc. ‘any’ in particular is ambiguous.

Rewording ‘any’ to ‘In school and online’ because ‘any’ has too broad a meaning without the right context. Those with dyslexia and autism have a tendency to view words and phrases literally (high impact).

Communicating ‘any’ type of tuition type can be very subjective i.e. it could include many different things like fast/slow paced tutoring, in center, tuition partners tutoring at the pupil’s home. This could lead to a miscommunication between the schools and the tuition partners.

When showing ‘Any’ tuition type on certain screens (please see screenshot below) it doesn’t give much context to the user as to what it actually means.

Having in school and online as the last option for these radio options (lower impact). This would flow a bit nicer, including for a screen reader and follows the typical conventions of listing the plural option as the last option

A few quick examples

User research suggests that the tuition setting was clear. Some school users found it useful that there was an option for ‘no preference’. A participant mentioned on an older concept that they found it useful to know about the rates being the same for most TPs.
