The business made the decision not to run own-brand events for Get Into Teaching any more. These events were promoted on the Get Into Teaching site alongside provider events.

Provider events describes events run by teacher training providers, for example teacher training colleges. These events tend to target the type of user that interact with the Get Into Teaching brand. These provider events would still be promoted on the GIT website as our aims align with these third parties.

What we did

Removing events from the site required a lot of co-ordination with different stakeholders such as the events team and direct marketing teams. We created a short-lived events working group for this purpose. We all agreed our approach, the edits we planned to make, and our timings. We tracked this using a Lucid board as well as our usual ticketing system, Trello.

The specific changes we needed included:

  • removing the events page (pictured below)
  • renaming the events page to specific this was provider events
  • updating the event widgets used around the site to specify these were provider events
  • removing the events filters which described the type of event (GIT or training provider)

Get Into Teaching events page

There are several testimonials on the site which describe people having been to GIT events. We decided not to update the testimonials. One good principle of making site updates is not to pretend that things haven't happened in the past. It's also true that the testimonials on the site probably need a broader update to update the key messaging from the re-brand, so we might revise these soon anyway.
