Dates: 21-27 November 2024 (5 days)

Overview

Started the process with user research insights from the School and Academies show in Birmingham, which took place on Wednesday 20 November 2024.

We only had 3 working days until the next round of user research at the Trust Procurement Network in Manchester, which took place on Tuesday 26 November 2024. So we decided to narrow down our focus to only the results page.

This would allow us enough time to:

  • Design - feasible to design one page in 3 days
  • Test - feasible to test one page with 10 minutes per user

We also engaged with 1 stakeholder, David Allen, Engagement and Outreach Lead - content governance meeting notes.

Design process

We conducted 2 design workshops to come up with the design.

First design workshop:

We each came up with an idea for the results page:

We reviewed all of the designs and gave feedback as a team.

Second design workshop:

  • Took place on Monday 25 November 2024.
  • Here’s the agenda for the second workshop.
  • We reflected on lessons learnt from the School and Academies Show in Birmingham.
  • We aligned user research objectives to the forthcoming round of user research at the Trust Procurement Network in Manchester.
  • We agreed that one page would be feasible to test in 10 minutes per user.
  • We came up with a design hypothesis, listed below.
  • We agreed to test two categories, Catering and Energy, to validate the assumption that buying factors would be different for different categories.
  • We created a lo-fidelity design as a team, which the Interaction Designer took into a mid-fidelity design for testing.
  • We created content for the Catering and ICT deals, filters, get help links, and heading at the top of the page.

Design challenge

HMW help users compare and choose the best option for them, based on what's important to them?

Design hypothesis

We bet if we give users a way to compare deals on the results page, based on buying factors tailored to the category (which are different for different categories), then we can meet the user needs to:

  • help users find and navigate, and to
  • consider their buying factors

We tested the two pages above with 6 users at the Trust Procurement Network in Manchester on Tuesday 26 November 2024.
