Overview
The aim of the related tasks journey is to enable users to link the tasks that they’re creating to other tasks that are either linked or of a similar nature. The related tasks component is a text field with an autocomplete function where users can enter the name of another task and select it.
Once a user has selected a task, it is added to a list. Users can add multiple tasks to the related tasks list. There is currently no limit on the number of tasks that can be added. This is because The reason for this is that we didn’t want to limit users if there are multiple tasks that have a relationship with the current task.
Reordering related tasks
Users can change the order of how the related tasks are displayed. This provides them more control over the tasks and how they are viewed by school business professionals, typically by order of importance.
Selecting the ‘reorder’ button takes the user to a separate screen where they are asked to select whether they would like to order the related tasks in alphabetical or another specific order. Selecting alphabetical will order the tasks alphabetically, whereas selecting ‘choose specific order’ will bring up another screen once the user selects the ‘confirm order’ button.
Once on the reorder list screen, users are presented with the list in the order as they’ve entered it on the create a task page. They’re able to change the order by selected selecting the move up and down links texts on the right hand side, under reorder related tasks. This component is a gov.uk pattern. We have used this pattern as it was the most user-friendly option. Another option using a numbered list was considered but the decision was made to use this version of the component as it was the most user-friendly.
After selecting the ‘confirm order’ button, users will return to the create a task page with the related tasks in the new order and a confirmation banner to reassure users of the amended reorder.
After making a change and continuing to the check answers page, related tasks are displayed in their own section, shown before publishing a task, in the order the user has selected and each separated by a comma.
What's next?
Related tasks is due to be developed and released in the next few months. We will monitor user feedback and iteratively improve the design as needed, depending on users' needs.
