We recently made the decision to remove the Welcome Guide from the Get Into Teaching website.

The guide was originally created to give more inspirational content to users who had signed up for personalised teacher training guidance.

We made the decision to remove it because:

  • few users visited the guide and engagement was very low
  • our accessibility audit raised concerns with the lack of audio description on the videos in the welcome guide and the programmatic structure of the pages
  • we now had much more inspirational content in the Life as a teacher section

Before removing the guide, we reviewed all the content and made copies so we could use it as quotes on other areas of the site if we needed to. We also moved one case study to the life as a teacher section.

Once we’d reviewed the content, we then removed the welcome guide pages from the front end, setting up re-directs in case any users still had the URLs saved.

We also removed any remaining welcome guide files and tests from our code, to keep it clean and efficient.

Going forward, our strategy is to use the Life as a teacher section as a base for all our inspirational content. This makes it easier for users to find and explore the content, and easier for us to manage it.
