Over the next few months, we will be looking at how the service works today, what the key users need from it, and where the biggest opportunities are to make things clearer, simpler and more reliable.

What we’re doing

Our discovery phase runs from October into December and possibly into January 2026. We’ll work to understand the current service, the connected services, talk to key users, and decide what we should focus on in an alpha.

We are looking at how key internal and external users interact with GIAS, what gets in their way, and where there are opportunities to improve the experience. We are also reviewing the data structures behind the service, the technical landscape, and how the service links to other parts of the wider ecosystem. This work will help us shape a realistic and evidence-based plan for the alpha phase.

What we’ll have

By the end of discovery, we aim to have:

  • a clear summary of user needs
  • a picture of the service today, including known issues
  • an outline of the technical risks and opportunities
  • 2-3 scoped out plans for what needs to be done, or what could be done within budget
  • a prioritised scope for the alpha phase

These outputs will help us make decisions with more confidence and give us a shared understanding of the direction.
