Context
When candidates search by training provider, and that training provider is also an accredited provider, the search results can include courses offered by the provider’s training partners.
Previously, the search results did not explain the relationship between the training partner and the accredited provider.
Pain points
Candidates could be confused when search results include courses from providers they had not searched for.
There was no information on the search results page to explain why these courses appeared or how the providers were connected.
User need
As a candidate I need to understand why I am seeing courses from other providers when I search for a specific training provider.
What we did
We decided to display the accredited provider’s name in the search results when:
- a candidate searches by a training provider, and
- the provider they searched for is also an accredited provider
Candidates may not understand the role of an accredited provider in detail. However, showing the accredited provider’s name helps indicate the relationship between the provider they searched for and the training partners in their results.
Our service data shows that only 5% to 7% of training partners have multiple accredited providers for a subject.
We therefore designed two approaches for displaying the accredited provider. This avoids repeating the same information on every course when there is only one accredited provider.
When one course by a training provider is displayed
We show the accredited provider’s name below the training provider’s name in the header.
When multiple courses by the same training provider are displayed as a group
If there is one accredited provider for all the courses in the group, then we show the accredited provider’s name below the training provider’s name in the header.
If there are different accredited providers for courses listed in the group, then we display the accredited provider’s name below the course name.
In most cases, we show the accredited provider alongside the training provider. When a training provider has courses in the same subject with different accredited providers, we show the accredited provider alongside each course instead.

We will be building these changes into the service and will consider any feedback about how accredited providers are displayed in search results.
